Relocation
Iain M. Robertson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and spent his early years living in that city's Colinton suburb. Colinton stood 3.5 miles southwest of Edinburgh located on the Water of Leith.
After graduating from the University of Edinburgh, Robertson traveled Europe, the Middle East and India, with a cousin and other school friends. Following this extended excursion, he made his way to Philadelphia, PA, where he matriculated as a graduate student in landscape architecture at the University of Pennsylvania's notable program.
As newlyweds, Robertson and his wife Hady De Jong moved to Seattle, WA, c. 1975.

He wed Hady De Jong in Scotland in 1977.
