Relocation

As an infant, Robert lived with his parents at 1408 North Cedar Street in Tacoma, WA. (See Tacoma, Washington, City Directory, 1916, p. 557.)By 1920, the Price Family resided at 2405 North Anderson Street in Tacoma. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1920; Census Place: Tacoma Ward 1, Pierce, Washington; Roll: T625_1936; Page: 4A; Enumeration District: 240, accessed 03/20/2018.) When Robert was 8, they had a house at 74 West Road in Tacoma. (See Tacoma, Washington, City Directory, 1923, p. 553.) They remained in this residence, which the family owned, according to the 1930 US Census. Because of the death of Robert's father, Helen Whitney (born c. 1892 in MN), Edna's younger sister, moved in with the family. She worked as a public school teacher, helping to provide the family with a salary.(See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1930; Census Place: Tacoma, Pierce, Washington; Page: 6A; Enumeration District: 0100, accessed 03/20/2018.)

Robert B. Price, the elder, died in 01/1928, leaving Edna to raise her two sons. Although his birth dates are recorded variously, it appears that he was about 69 when he passed away. Edna, Robert and Joseph resided in an apartment at 1001 North Yakima Avenue, Apartment 104. (See Tacoma, Washington, City Directory, 1939, p. 670.)

In 1954, He and his wife Joan lived at 3814 Soundview Drive in Tacoma. (SeeTacoma, Washington, City Directory, 1954, p. 536.)

Parents

His parents were Robert B. Price (born c. 03/1859 in NY-d. 01/16/1928 in Tacoma, WA) and Edna M. Whitney (born c. 1888 in MN). This was Robert's second marriage. He previously wed Norma Price (born c. 1863 in PA-died c. 1901 in Tacoma, WA) c. 1887. Norma had had three children, none of whom were alive in 1900, according the US Census of that year. Robert and Norma had an adopted son, George (born c. 06/1893 in NY), and lived at 407 North Yakima Avenue in Tacoma. They were well-to-do enough to employ a 16-year-old servant, Anna Novak (born c. 1884 in Bohemia). (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1900; Census Place: Tacoma Ward 2, Pierce, Washington; Page: 5; Enumeration District: 0164, accessed 03/20/2018.) Robert Price had pursued real estate as a career since at least 1889; he was a partner with Frederick W. Snow in a real estate office at 112 S 10th Street in 1889. (See R.L. Polk and Company,Tacoma, Washington, City Directory, 1889.)

Robert B. Price the elder was considerably older than Edna Whitney when they married on 06/29/1914. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Washington State Archives; Olympia, Washington; Collection Title: Washington Marriage Records, 1854-2013; Reference Number: prcmc-v9_542-DA3, accessed 03/20/2018.) He continued to work, in 1920, as a real estate agent. Edna managed the household that included two children, Robert and his younger brother, Joseph M. Price (born c. 07/1917 in WA). Because of the age difference, Robert B. Price, the elder, died well before Edna, leaving her in need of an income. By 1939, she became a deputy collection at the US Internal Revenue Service. (See Tacoma, Washington, City Directory, 1939, p. 670.)
