Personal

Born in Ossining, NY, Chaydeane attended the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), finishing her studies there in 1927. She lived in Los Angeles with her family in 1930 at 145437 Valley Vista Boulevard and remained in that city through at least 1935. She later worked with Lillian Rice in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, between 1935-1937. The 1940 US Census indicated that she resided alone in a $20-a-month rental apartment in Encinitas, CA. She moved East sometime in 1940, and spent two years living in Ithaca, NY, where she taught house planning at Cornell University. In 1970, she lived at 141 Flora Avenue, Apartment 16, Walnut Creek, CA. She died at age 97 in Sacramento, CA.

Her father, Ulysses Chadeayne, (born c. 1866 in NY), worked as a retail merchant of hay and oats in 1910 while still living in Ossining, NY; by 1920, the damily had transplanted itself to Van Nuys, Los Angeles, CA, where he was a farmer. Her mother, Olive K. Chadeayne (1873-1963) was seven years younger than Ulysses, and had been born in IA. She managed the house, and had three children of which two were still alive in 1910. She had a brother, J. Kingsley Chadeayne (1907-1986), who became a lawyer, and, for most of his adult life, lived in Tracy, CA. His office at 37 West 10th Street in Tracy had been designed by Olive.
