Résumé
Partner, Johnson and Smith, Architects, Seattle, WA, 1890. It appears that Johnson and Smith worked together for only one year, 1890. He appears to limited himself to construction by 1891, and may have become a sawyer and/or lumberman by later in the 1890s. In any case, he did not leave a deep impression on Seattle's built environment.
Principal, Charles M. Johnson, Building Contractor, Seattle, WA, 1891. (See Polk's Seattle Directory Company's Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1891, p. 442.)
Relocation
Charles M. Johnson did not work in Seattle very long as an architect or building contractor. His first and last name was quite common, so it remains difficult to trace his presence in records definitively.
In 1890, Johnson resided and did business at 1111 8th Avenue in Seattle, WA. (See Polk's Seattle Directory Company's Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1890, p. 895.) A year later, helived and worked from an office at 2517 Front Street (later 1st Avenue). (See Polk's Seattle Directory Company's Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1891, p. 442.) In 1892, a building contractor, "Charles Johnson," lived at 223 Albert Street in the city. (SeeCorbett and Company Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1892, p. 493.) A "Charles M. Johnson," a sawyer, lived at the foot of Blanchard Street in 1893 and 1894. (See Polk's Seattle Directory Company's Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1893, p. 521 and Polk's Seattle Directory Company's Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1894, p. 456.) The only Charles M. Johnson listed in the city directory worked as a painter, and dwelled at 2405 West Street. (See Polk's Seattle Directory Company's Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1895, p. 425.)
