He participated in the Lincoln High Debating Club during 1908 and 1909, A.A., 1907-1909, was the Class Treasurer, 1907, and played football (1906-1908) and basketball, (1908-1909). Born in Yankton, SD, Sylliaasen lived in Seattle, WA, by 1910, and presumably before, because he attended the University of Washington. His parents lived in SD from at least 1886-1895, before coming to Seattle.

In 09/1917, he, his wife and a child, lived at 1816 North 48th Street in Seattle. He worked as a civil engineer for V.D. Simons, an industrial engineer with a main office in Vancouver, BC.

He died on 07/29/1956 in Seattle.

His parents, Christ (born c. 1861 in Norway) and Johanna Petersen Sylliaasen (born c. 1859 in Norway), married c. 1884. The sometimes reliable US Census (of 1910) indicated that Christ and Hanna came to the US in 1881. He had been naturalized. They had five children, four sons, Oscar T. Sylliaasen, (born 12/1886 in SD), Clarence J. Sylliaasen, (born 09/1888 in SD), Melvin Sylliaasen (born 11/1890 in Yankton, SD), and Vincent Leon Sylliaasen, (born 08/1895 in Yankton, SD-d. 03/1982 in Seattle, WA), and a daughter, Olive J. Sylliaasen, (born 03/1893 in Yankton, SD-d. 06/01/1950 in Seattle, WA).

According to the US Census of 1910, Christ worked as a building contractor. (He worked in the firm of Sylliaasen and Sando in 1910.) Christ's son Oscar worked as an electrician, Clarence as a salesman for a haberdasher. Melvin attended the University of Washington, and Olive and Vincent, high school.
