Lyerla's date of birth has been subject to some disagreement. His World War II draft registration card said it was 09/21/1917. Find A Grave.com stated it to have been 08/21/1917. The U.S. Public Records Index, 1950-1993, Volume 2,had it as 08/21/1919.
