His father was Eben B. Sankey (born c. 07/1837 in PA), his mother, Julia E. Sankey (born 08/1839 in MA). The 1900 US Census listed Eben B. Sankey's occupation as "capitalist." In 1900, the family was comfortable enough to afford a servant, Rachael Fagan (born 01/1880 in MO).

Eben B. and Julia Sankey married c. 1868, and had four children, all of whom were alive in 1900.

Spouse

He married Anita Booth Sankey (born c. 08/08/1877). Reports differed about Anita's place of birth. The 1910 US Census indicated that she was born in AR. (A ship's passenger manifest from 1921, on a trip between Callao, Peru and San Francisco, CA, stated that she had been born in Little Rock, AR.) The 1920 US Census indicated that she was born in Mexico and came to the US in 1896. She received US citizenship by marriage in 1901. The document dated 09/22/1919, registering Sankey as an American national living in Peru, indicated that Anita had been born near Little Rock, AR. This document was signed in Sankey's hand.

The 1910 US Census recorded that this had been her second marriage, and that she had had one child, who was not alive in that year. As early as 1919, Sankey indicated that he was paralyzed below the waist.
