Wiehle came to Los Angeles in April 1951, seeking employment in one of two architectural offices: those of R.M. Schindler or John E. Lautner; Schindler refused to see Wiehle; Wiehle worked for Lautner as an apprentice from April 1951 until the summer of 1952; Wiehle worked for a Washington, D.C., firm in 1952; Wielhe assisted Lautner with his Harvey, Shusett, Baxter-Hodiak, Williams, Gootgeld, and Bergren Houses.
