Personal

Adams was born in Maine, and lived in Augusta, ME in 1910 and Rockland, ME in 1920. He resided in an apartment building at 4530 South Normandie Avenue, apartment 359, Los Angeles, CA, in 1930. (At this time, his rent was $40 per month; he shared the apartment with a "lodger," Martha Steiger, aged 12.) His last residence was in the 96740 zip code of Kailua, Kona, HI.

Both of his parents came from Maine. His father, Walter I. Kirkpatrick (born c. 1882 in ME), was an oiler in a paper mill. (In 1920, his occupation listed in U.S. Census records was "mechanic.") His parents were Scottish. His mother was Maretta (perhaps Margaretta?) H. Kirkpatrick, who was born in ME. She and Walter were married c. 1904, and had five children: Waldo A., Francis W. (daughter born c. 1906), Milton V. (born c. 1908), Helen M. (born c. 06/1909) and Elizabeth B. (born c. 1912). In 1910, the family rented a house in Ward 8 or Augusta, ME; Maretta's mother, Mary E. Adams, aged 50, lived with the family.

In 1930, the U.S. Census indicated that Kirkpatrick was married, but his wife was not listed as living with him. He was said to have married c. 1924.
