Robert McKay Shields was born in Rexburg, ID, on 04/24/1917. Rexburg was an agricultural town incorporated in 1883 and located on the Teton River. Its earliest settlers were Mormons who resettled north from UT. The town has long had a strong Morman presence in it and serves as the site of the Brigham Young University's Idaho campus.

The architect passed away at age 95 in Seattle on 07/01/2012.
