Withey all were listed separately in the Architects' Classified Listing, but all had the same business address, 3215 West 6th Street in the Exchange Building, Room #621. They worked together on projects, from at least 1918-1922. Henry Withey's World War I draft registration card indicated that he worked for himself.

His father was John F. Withey, his mother, Martha Peckham WIthey. They married in c. 1877. John Withey performed several jobs during his lifetime. He worked as a job printer in 1880, a farmer c. 1900 and a laborer in 1910. Martha supervised the household that included four children.

Their children included Henry, Arthur W. Withey (born 01/1882 in MA), Alice M. Withey (born 04/1883 in MA), and Edith (born c. 12/1887 in MA).

Spouse

Henry Withey married Elsie Rathburn (1881-1964), with whom he wrote a much-read Biographical Dictionary of American Architects (Deceased), (Los Angeles, New Age Pub. Co., [c. 1956]); caution must be used, however, when reading the book as it is filled with factual errors.

Elsie immigrated to the US in 1884, and was naturalized in 1900, according to the 1920 US Census form.

Withey's World War I draft registration card of 09/12/1918 indicated that he was tall, with a slender build, and had blue eyes and brown hair. His World War II draft registration card of 04/26/1942 listed his height at age 62 as 5-feet, 10 1/2-inches tall and his weight 170 pounds.
