In 1910, Kenneth Lind, age 9 months, lived with his famil in Rockford, IL, in a rented house at 1814 Charles Street. Their neighborhood was heavily populated by Swedes, Danes and other Northern European immigrants. The Swedish American Hospital stood nearby as did Dahlquist Park. In 1920, the family owned a residence at 120 Shaw Street, Rockford. Lind worked as a U.S. Government clerk in 1930, working in Washington, D.C. He lived in a rented room on Kentucky Avenue SE there.

His father, Nels Lind, (born c. 1880) was a carpenter in IL; Nels Lind came to the U.S. from Sweden in 1903. (The 1920 U.S. Census indicated that they both parents came to the U.S. in 1904 and were both naturalized in 1910.) In 1910, Nels specialized in house building. His mother was Jennie Lind, (born c. 1884) who also came to the U.S. in 1903 from Sweden; Nels and Jennie married c. 1905; in 1910, they had had three children: Bernice M.(born c. 1906 in IL), Helen A. (born c. 1908 in IL), and Kenneth. By 1920, two brothers had been born: Willard S. (born c. 1913 in IL) and Mernal A. (born c. 1915 in IL);
