Charles lived with his two sisters, Hilda Strothoff, (born c. 12/1893 in CA), and Ruby Strothoff, (born 04/1895 in CA) in 1900.

Strothoff was a large man for his time, standing 6-foot, 4-inches tall, and weighing 263 pounds. His World War II draft registration card described him as balding with gray hair, gray eyes, and a ruddy complexion.
