His father was the well-known Los Angeles architect Robert Brown Young (born 04/01/1855 in Huntingdon, QC, Canada-d. 01/29/1914 in Los Angeles, CA), his mother, Mary C. Wilson (born 01/20/1864 in Memphis, TN-d. 11/03/1938 in Pasadena, CA).

After working for his father, he became a partner in the architectural firm of Robert B. Young and Son, Architects. He outlived his father by only four years.
