Parents
His father, Earl R. Wolfard (born 04/21/1879 in IN-died 10/06/1966 in Alameda County, CA), did a number of jobs during Harold's youth. He worked as a machinist in the Oakland shipyards in 1920, a carpenter in Oakland in 1926, and a gardener for a private house in 1930. His mother, Alma N. Wolfard (born c. 1878 in Sweden), maintained the household. According to the US Census of 1920, Alma moved to the US from Sweden in 1883, and was naturalized in 1904.(The 1920 US Census indicated that she came to the US in 1883, the 1930 US Census, said 1887.) His sister, Jenny Louise Wolfard, (born 03/171902 in MN), was five years older than he. In 1926, Jenny worked as a teacher in the Berkeley Public School System.
