Regents gave the green light to the development of the UC Davis Center for the Arts Performance Hall, approving a land use amendment to the campus’ long range development plan, amending the budget for capital improvements and capital improvement program, approved a mitigated negative declaration and design for the hall, and approved financing for the project. To be built at the southwest corner of Old Davis Road and Mrak Hall Drive, the Center for the Arts Performance Hall is designed to contain 55,705 assignable square feet within an area of 100,925 gross square feet. Its components are: a multifunctional performance hall seating up to 1,800 and a studio theater to accommodate a wide variety of uses including rehearsal, dance, films, lecture and banquets, with a seating capacity of 250. The project cost of $53.5 million is to be funded from private gifts ($22.6 million), campus funds ($15.5 million) and external financing ($15.4 million). The hall is expected to open in 2002."
