"Chair Fast noted that the Tacoma School District had requested to also exclude the parking lots from the nomination. Commissioner Phillips agreed to add that clause as a 'Friendly Amendment' to his original motion. Commissioner Sleavin inquired if it was customary to exclude the parking lots and the playgrounds from the school nominations. Mr. McKnight was able to answer the query by stating that procedures and language have been updated to accommodate specifics of designated sites in order to clarify how the nomination is written. It has been determined that it is necessary to clarify, in writing, what part of a site was 'contributing' on a property, so as to avoid ambiguities. Chair Fast noted that the intention of the School District to exclude parking lots, etc., was to facilitate improvements to the grounds surrounding the structures."
