Article by Joe Blackstock. "The Red Hill Country Club, on a hill just above the eastern boundary of the city, nearly became a public golf course, park and recreation center owned by Upland. In April 1942, country club members offered to give the property to the city if it would assume nearly $15,000 in debt. They asked that at least a nine-hole course be maintained and the current members be allowed to play for free for five years."
