Article written by Joe Blackstock. "On Feb. 5, 1947, the Grove Theatre formally opened on East Ninth Street as a movie house, after a $200,000 construction project. Opening night served as a world premiere, according to reports, of the movie, "Boomerang," starring Dana Andrews and Jane Wyatt and directed by Elia Kazan. Among the stars who attending the opening that night were Roddy McDowell and Alan Hale Jr. The theater -- the "biggest single structure improvement ever made in Upland," according to the News -- long ago stopped showing motion pictures, and today is the home to Upland theater productions."
