"It seems that the mansion may have been originally intended as a 'high-class sanitarium' for tuberculars. The mansion was called Casa Desierto Sanitarium, and also as 'Desertaire.' It was in this same area that Helen Muir had come for her health,3 to be followed by others to enjoy the dry air and the heat of the desert. Helen remained in the area and married Buel Funk."
