Polish-immigrant Julius Tishman (1864-1935) founded this real estate and construction firm in 1898 in New York. The company became publicly-traded by 1928. Tishman Realty and Construction Company was headquartered in New York, NY., and it maintained the focus of its operations in that city.
The Tishman Realty and Construction Company, Incorporated, erected its first Los Angeles high-rise in 1952, the Central Plaza Building. It operated a Los Angeles office at 3460 Wilshire Boulevard in 1972,
A publicly-held company between 1928 and 1976, the firm reorganized in the latter year. Some subsidiaries were sold at that time, such as the Tishman Research and Construction Company, but three private concerns were then established: the Tishman Construction Company, a development business, Tishman Speyer, and a real estate leasing arm, Tishman Management and Leasing Corporation.
The Tishman Construction Corporation, a privately-held company, built some of the Tishman Family's large-scale highrises in New York before being sold to AECOM in 2010.
