Firm Notes
Samuel's practice began in Paris at 83 Quai d’Orsay, but moved in 1976 to 118 Rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Samuel was known for his knowledge of a range of historic styles and his expert ability to blend them. Setting him apart, Samuel also had access to pieces of the highest quality and to craftsmen who could restore them sensitively. Prior to setting up his own firm in 1970, he had worked for the legendary Parisian design house, Alavoine. In his own firm, Samuel had two design associates, Jacques Cayron and a man named "Monsieur Hanché," as well as a skilled draftsman named Pierre, an accountant, Jacqueline Lallemand, and an office assistant, Madame Chaminade. He worked primarily in Europe, but by the 1960s he attended to a number of socially prominent clients in New York. One of his last large efforts was the redesign of the house owned by Jerry Parenchio in Bel-Air, CA.
