Firm Notes
The architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, headquartered in New York, NY, became famous for art-related buildings following its design for the Eyebeam Museum of Art and Technology, New York, NY (2004, unbuilt). Two years later, it completed its much-publicized Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, MA, (2006), a commissioned that cemented its position as perhaps the leading designer of art museums and buildings for art in the US. In the Bay Area, Stanford University commissioned the firm to design its McMurtry Building for Art and Art History (2015), and the University of California, its Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) #2 (2016). The firm also designed Eli Broad's Los Angeles art museum, known as the Broad in 2015.
