The Portland,OR-based company, Stevens, Thompson and Runyan, Engineers, Incorporated, according to Marvin Runyan's 2014 obituary, was "...a Portland consulting engineering firm responsible for designing hundreds of water and waste-water treatment plants to provide clean rivers and safe drinking water in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska." Marvin Runyan rose through the company to become an Associate in 1952, a Partner in 1955, Executive Vice-President in 1961, and President and CEO of STR in 1976.
