Ehrlich-Rominger built a facility for the Hewlett-Packard Corporation in Palo Alto, CA, in the 1950s, starting a long relationship between the two firms. In 1977, the firm had become a key designer of office and production buildings for Silicon Valley's top electronics companies. It maintained offices at 2470 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA, in 1977. It moved to 1935 Alameda de las Pulgas, Redwood City, CA, by 1981.
It also branched out into the design of biotechnical laboratories and research buildings by the 1990s. The firm had moved its headquartered to Los Altos, CA, by 1993.
The Engineering News-Record ranked Ehrlich-Rominger as the United States' fourth largest architecture firm, c. 1998; just before 1999, the firm operated offices in Los Altos, CA, Sacramento,CA, San Diego, CA, Boise, ID, Phoenix, AZ, and Tucson, AZ.
Ehrlich Rominger merged with Henningson, Durham and Richardson, Inc., (HDR) of Omaha, NE in 1999.
