The firm was absorbed into the SmithGroup, a large architecture and planning firm, (previously known as "Smith Hinchman and Grylls, Architects,") in 1970. The SmithGroup was headquartered in Detroit, MI, while JJR, LLC, was located nearby in Ann Arbor, MI.
In 11/2011, the firm rebranded itself "SmithGroupJJR."
