Firm Notes
This firm, which had its beginnings in Kansas City, MO, operated for most of the 1890s in San Francisco, CA. Willis Webb Polk, the firm elder, retired in 1896, and Daniel Polk left it for a musical career in vaudeville c. 1895. The prolonged economic slowdown from 1893-1896, drove WIllis J. Polk into bankruptcy by 1897, although he continued to operate the firm on his own until 1899. He then entered into a one-year partnership with the established San Francisco architect, George W. Percy. Percy's long-time partner, Frederick F. Hamilton passed away on 12/01/1899.
