Thomas Sear began his own engineering company in 1955. He partnered with municipal engineer Robert Brown in 1963 to form Sear-Brown Engineers. It merged merged with Stantec, Incorporated, of Edmonton, AB, 04/2004; in 2003, Sear-Brown had 13 offices, located mostly in New York State; it was headquartered in Rochester, NY, with branch offices in Albany, NY, Binghamton, NY, Buffalo, NY, Elmira, NY, Melville, NY, Rouses Point, NY, and Syracuse, NY, Denver, CO, and Fort Collins, CO, Hillsborough, NC, Cleveland, OH, State College, PA, and Guayama, Puerto Rico.
