Dankmar Adler, Charles Herbert Bebb, George Grant Elmslie, Louis Sullivan, Charles Frederick Whittlesey

Active 1883-1895

This Chicago-based firm, famous for its Auditorium Building and other landmarks of that city, designed very little for the Pacific Coast. Louis Sullivan joined D. Adler and Company in 1881, but did not become a partner until 1883. The Depression of 1893 caused a lack of work which forced the dissolution of Adler and Sullivan. Each partner practiced on his own thereafter, with Adler dying prematurely in 1900.
