William S. Dinwiddie, Sr., (1871-1932) founded this construction firm in San Francisco, CA. In 1939, Dinwiddie Construction leased a main office in the Crocker Building in San Francisco. (See Dinwiddie Construction Company, advertisement, Architect and Engineer, vol. 138, no. 3, 09/1939, p. 75.)
Dinwiddie Construction merged with Hathaway Construction (headquartered in Santa Clara, CA) to form Hathaway Dinwiddie in 10/1996. The companies retained separate identities, each retaining its offices in San Francisco and Santa Clara. Once public companies, Hathaway Dinwiddie became privately held in 1996. In 2011, another office operated in Los Angeles, CA.
