Controversy over the construction of this streetcar line occurred in 2007, when some complained that mass transit money could better be spent on buses or other transit elsewhere. The political clout of Paul Allen and his Vulcan Properties' intensive development of the South Lake Union area were seen by some as the main reasons for the completion of this line.
