This factory was the first large-scale manufacturing facility located in East Palo Alto, CA and one of four plants producing helicopters in the world in 1947; a land annexation in 1959 by the City of Menlo Park, CA, removed the Hiller plant from the economically struggling East Palo Alto. At its height, Hiller employed about 2,000 people in this facility.
Hiller established his $150,000 factory on 61 acres of land in the sparsely populated area of East Palo Alto.
