The Beezer Brothers, while headquartered in Altoona, PA, designed this 20-room, Tudor Revival, house, set on 130 acres, for the Thaw Family, wealthy from railroad investments. Used as a summer residence, the Thaw Mansion cost an astronomical $150,000 at the turn of the century. In 2001, it was up for sale with an asking price of $1.2 million.
Harry Kendall Thaw (1871-1947), a periodic resident of Elmhurst and the son of the railroad tycoon William Kendall Thaw, Sr. (1818-1889), gained notoriety for his 1906 murder of architect Stanford White (1853-1906) at Madison Square Garden on 06/25/1906.
The Lewises spent six months renovating the house, which at one time served as a church summer camp.
