The Green Tortoise Hostel's first Seattle, WA, location was located in the Queen Anne neighborhood. It moved to a downtown location in 1996 at 1525 Second Avenue near Pike Street. This building was demolished to make room for a large hotel/condominium complex. In early 2006, the co-owner of the Seattle Green Tortoise arranged for a 15-year lease in this building, which formerly housed another hotel.

In 2007, the Green Tortoise Hostel had 147 beds in 30 rooms.
