Samuel Hill, lawyer and railroad executive, spearheaded funded efforts for the Peace Arch, begun in 1914. The arch, designed by H.W. Corbett, a London architect, was dedicated on 09/06/1921. Hill's friend, Queen Anne of Romania rededicated the Peace Arch at his request in 1926.
Like all of the major architectural commissions funded by Samuel Hill, the Peace Arch was erected of reinforced concrete.
