Overview

The noted Los Angeles Modernist, Rudolph M. Schindler remodeled an existing duplex residence from the earlier 1930s into a three-bedroom, two-bath single family residence for the Westby Family between 1938 and 1949.

Building Notes

The Westby House had an asking price of $1,095,000 in 11/2009.

Alteration

Schindler remodeled this house for Westby, and also designed the furniture for it in 1938. The LA Curbed.com website said of the Westby House when it was for sale in 2009: "Schindler made alterations and additions 'as the owners circumstances changed,' which explains the home's date of 1938-1949. The home was originally a Depression-era duplex that eventually became a single-family residence with a walled courtyard patio and a studio/library added over the garage after the War. The home is sited on a hillside, affording city views." (See Marissa Gluck, LA Curbed.com, "Schindler's Westby House In Silver Lake Hits the Market," published 10/09/2009, accessed 07/29/2021.)
