Designed by architect, Newton Gauntt, the first John Greenleaf, Elementary School in Seattle, WA, was completed during the summer of 1908, and was ready for classes by September of that year. It closed as a school in June 1997.

The first Whittier Elementary School stood on a 1.79 acre plot, that was expanded in 1921 to 2.66 acres. (An apple orchard was purchased and added to school property.)

Nine portable classrooms clustered around the original building in 1927, necessitating expansion. Seattle Public School's architect, Floyd Naramore, designed this second building for Whittier Elementary School in 1927-1928.

Demolished 1998.
