George Marston located his second dry goods store on 5th Avenue between G and H Streets.

Overview

San Diego philanthropist and civic leader George Marston opened his first dry goods store on 5th Avenue and D Street (now Broadway) in 08/1878. It didn't take long for Marston to see that this location wasn't optimal, so that year, he moved his business to 5th Avenue between G and H (now Market) Streets. He remained in this second spot from 1878 until 1882, when he built a larger, third building on the northeast corner of 5th Avenue and F Streets.
