The first Marston store was located on the northeast corner of 5th Avenue and D Street, later renamed "Broadway."

Overview

This first location of George Marston's Dry Goods Store did not last a full year at this 5th and D Street site. By late 1878, it had moved to a new spot, closer to its customer base on 5th Street between G and H Streets. The first store lasted less than one year, and the second would operate from 1878 until 1882. Marston would become a leading philanthropist for San Diego, personally financing city planning and public beautification projects that would benefit the entire population.
