Arthur S. Bent (b. 1863) built multiple houses in Southern CA during the first three decades of the twentieth century. Bent had vocations in several fields during his life; he worked during the 1880s as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Herald and Los Angeles Express newspapers, becoming City Editor of the Express by 1881. He worked for the Banning Company in San Pedro, CA, and later the Pacific Clay Manufacturing Company in Los Angeles, CA, and Corona, CA. He began his own contracting company in 1888, doing irrigation, road-paving and other public works projects. He conducted business throughout the West and in Mexico, and maintained branch offices in Denver, CO, and Seattle, WA. (See "Los Angeles County Biographies,"
