Hertz Hall is on the north side of the campus, just to the southwest of Wurster Hall and due west from Kroeber Hall.

The architecture firm of Gardner A. Dailey and Associates designed this reinforced concrete building that housed a 750-seat concert hall. A breezeway connected the Hertz Memorial Hall of Music with Morrison Hall, home of the Music Department and the Music Library. Together, Hertz and Morrison Halls cost $1,758,000 to erect, of $200,000 was paid by Alfred Hertz (1872-1942), the head of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra between 1915-1930. The remainder was paid for by the State of CA.
