When it was built, the Chatsworth school was at the edge of agricultural land on the northwest periphery of the San Fernando Valley. In its earliest years, many aerospace industries located near Chatsworth.

During the 2005-2006 school year, Chatsworth High School had 3,183 students and 117 teachers. The school occupied approximately 40 acres.
