Seattle busineessmen and boosters erected this temporary pavilion to commemorate the completion of the Great Northern Railway's passenger line to the city in 06/1893. (A freight line had entered Seattle in 02/1893.) The pavilion showcased industries in the Puget Sound region for newcomers and visitors. On 07/04/1893, Great Northern President James J. Hill led a July Fourth parade through Seattle, a hero for bringing prosperity to the city.
