In 2000, the Seattle City Council awarded a community group, Citizens for a Library at Sand Point, $1.4 million for the construction of a library in the Sand Point neighborhood of northeast Seattle. In 12/2006, the Seattle Library Board declared that a branch in the neighborhood was not needed, causing a response from citizens' groups.
