Alteration
After the Santa Barbara Earthquake of 06/29/1925, the McKay Building underwent renovation to repair severe damage. The Santa Barbara News-Press noted on 04/21/1926: "Reconstruction work on the McKay building, State and De la Guerra streets, is scheduled to start this week, following the issuance of a building permit yesterday afternoon by Building Inspector L.L. Pope. The estimated cost of the structure is given as $53,000. Workmen have been demolishing the second and third floors of the old building during the past two weeks. Lionel Pries is architect for the building, and Mattock and Feasey are the contractors.” (See “McKay Building Permit Granted,” Santa Barbara News-Press, 04/21/1926, p. 11.)
A proposal came to the Santa Barbara City Sign Committee for the addition of one five-foot wall sign and two 4.75 foot blade signs to the building, 02/14/2007.
