Overview
This residence was for noted landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, one of the children of the great landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr. The Olmsted Brothers landscape firm was involved in the planning of the Palos Verdes Estates community west of Los Angeles in the 1930s. Both Olmsted, Jr., and Charles Cheney were the designers leading the project.
Building History
The architectural firm of Hunt and Chambers designed this vacation residence for the landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., (1870-1957), son of the noted landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., (1822-1903), co-designer of Central Park, New York, NY, (with Calvert Vaux) and many other picturesque landscapes across the country. Olmsted, Jr., practiced with John C. Olmsted (1852-1920) in the Olmsted Brothers Landscape Architecture firm of Brookline, MA.
