This Neo-Classical Revival Style house was purchased by Sisters of Maryknoll, or the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America in 1920; they operated the house as a kindergarten for Asian-American children at first; in 1930, the complex included a church and school for Japanese-American and Filipino-American students. Due to the Executive Order 9066 of 02/19/1942, calling for the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, the school closed in 1942.
