Structure Type: built works - religious structures - churches
Designers: Scherer, Lester G., Architect (firm); Lester George Scherer (architect)
Dates: constructed 1930
Building History
An eclectic designer, Lester G. Scherer (1898-1973) was well-known for his structures in the Art Deco Style. For various reasons, few churches commissioned architects to design their assembly spaces in such an overtly modern mode. Religious ceremony and liturgy is heavily based on the past, and, therefore, most churches have chosen to refer back in time, rather than anticipate new trends. Tulsa, OK's Boston Avenue Methodist Church (1929) was another rare example of an Art Deco house of worship.
