The contractor for this mile-long tunnel-boring was Obayashi Corporation. On 02/07/2007, Michael Bruce Merryman, 49, a mechanic for Obayashi, died in a construction equipment accident. In 2005, Tyler Scott sustained serious knee and ankle injuries while working on this same tunnel. Scott worked for the sub-contractor, Soletanche, Incorporated.

Sound Transit bored a mile-long hole through Beacon Hill, and built a light rail station in the middle of it.
