The William Kent Estate Company developed this beachfront community in the late 1940s; the noted urban planner, Catherine Bauer wrote the protective restrictions for development in 1949, and her husband, William W. Wurster, and his firm, Wurster, Bernardi and Emmons, designed many houses here in the 1950s and 1960s.
